Old Humboldt

15 Apr

Dear friend,

Yesterday, I found myself driving through small-town Humboldt. While you can’t find an abundance of restaurants or flashy activities, you can always be sure to find some pretty cool buildings, especially around the old business district.

Though I enjoy the perks of bigger cities — the larger movie theaters, the Starbucks, the parks — smaller communities possess an undeniable charm for me. Anything old and rugged and worn, things with history.

My friend and I really liked this building. I believe it was a thrift store with a random mural painted on the front. I’m not sure what the painting represents (other than the obvious people eating at a table), but there was something interesting, yet haunting, about it.

Humboldt residents had decked their town with flags as well —  very patriotic and beautiful.

Last, several figurines were dancing in a small grassy area downtown. Again, I’m not sure what they represented, but I was intrigued by them and the crumbling wall behind them.

So many interesting sites in such a small town!

Until next time,
